Cool, thanks for the tips all :) I have got the updating working and taken
the below advice and not bothering to do an automatic update, I'll just
check the server a couple of times a week and see whats happening :)

The French govt just brought 1,500 Mandrake servers. It works fine as a
server :) But personally I wouldn't do fully automated package upgrades on
a server without checking what's going in first.
