Hi

I recently built a Debian box (sarge) with a new 200 gig drive which give s
the following error on a regular basis:

Jun  7 08:09:58 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jun  7 08:09:58 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Jun  7 08:10:23 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jun  7 08:10:23 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Jun  7 08:10:23 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jun  7 08:10:23 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Jun  7 08:10:24 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jun  7 08:10:24 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Jun  7 08:10:24 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jun  7 08:10:24 ds2 kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Jun  7 08:10:24 ds2 kernel: ide0: reset: success

if I turn off dma using hdparm the problem goes away but so does the
performance - the time taken for a clamscan more than doubles.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can tune things so that I keep the
performance without the errors I would appreciate the input.

BTW - I posted a week or so ago about funny usb driver related kernel oops's
on another debian sarge box - it was definitely a faulty motherboard.

Thanks

Mark Signal
