[wellylug] Gnome GDM issues

hi all,

I've got a big problem with GDM (Gnome Display Manager).

I'm using version GDM-2.6.0.0, on a custom compiled system and a recent
version of X.org.

For some reason, when it starts, it states that it could not start the
gdmgreeter program, and then exits.

When examining the error output I got:
(gdmgreeter:26432): Gtk-WARNING**: cannot open display

I belive it might be because of it being unable to start the display
from the console. Does anyone have any idea on how to to this? I know
that distro's like redhat do it.


Any help/hints/ideas would be great.
