After beating my head against my keyboard for quite some time, I got
acceleration working nicely with my Radeon 9600 Pro under X / Debian.
At some stage I'll note down what I had to do to get it working. :)
From looking at the features of the driver, I'd rather have the radeon
than a geforce - I just wish it was a bit easier to get working. :P
The ATI X module comes with a replacement xf86config script which will
configure fullscreen antialiasing, vertical sync settings, dual head,
etc etc for you. I know that the X module for nvidia cards supports
dualhead / twinview / xinerama / whatever you want to call it, but I'm
not sure about the other features I've seen in the ATI driver.

(apologies if this comes through twice .. gmail decided to stop playing
nice)
