The following output was obtained following a full reboot of my PC and nothing
plugged into the usb ports:
[root at localhost cjlewis]# ls /proc/bus/usb
001/ devices drivers
[root at localhost cjlewis]# ls /proc/bus/usb/001
001
[root at localhost cjlewis]# lsmod

This is what I got after plugging my Acer into the usb port and turning it on
(but without loading jpilot and attempting an actual hotsync):
[root at localhost cjlewis]# ls /proc/bus/usb
001/ devices drivers
[root at localhost cjlewis]# ls /proc/bus/usb/001
001
[root at localhost cjlewis]# lsmod

Can someone give some interpretation to all of this? The output of
/proc/bus/usb appears to be the same both before and after. The only change
I can see in lsmod is in the 2nd line, where i810 'used by' changed from 12
to 13. There certainly seem to be the same number of entries in each case.
Note that I did have to become root to get to run lsmod.
When going through the system startup I noticed that it reported 'mount USB
filesystem OK'. I should also note that I have successfully used the usb
port previously to download photos from my digital camera, if that helps at
all.
I could always bring my box and palm along to the Hutt Lug meeting on the 25th
if that would help so someone could have a hands on play with it, although I
would like to be able to get things sorted before then if I could.
thanks for all the help
Colin
