Have you got the latest putty from
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

On Windows 95 you'll need the Winsock 2 update
http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wuadmintools/s_wunetworkingtools/w95sockets2/

Just out of interest, why are you using Windows 95, it's a little creaky...
