In your Smoothwall setup did you include a domain suffix (eg: domain.lan)
for your DHCP server, if not you will need to as this passes the domain
suffix to the Smoothwall DNS server for doing lookups. I had this problem
here at home when I was testing Smoothwall 2.0 Express.
Also, in your Windows PC, in the network settings you need to add the domain
suffix as well. Again, I know this from experience.

Hello,
I have just made the break from Ye Olde fixed IP addresses on my home LAN
to using my Smoothwall machine as a dhcp server.
I have another Linux machine (Monty), and a Windoze machine (Krusty), each
successfully getting IP addresses from Smoothwall. When I have two Windoze
machines running, they can still see one another by hostname, just as
before with fixed IP addresses.
What can I do to make Monty reliably visible to Krusty (as a samba server)
without looking on Monty for his IP address, and searching for it in
Windoze explorer on Krusty each time? Under this new regime Krusty can only
find Monty by IP, not by hostname. I've looked up dhcpd info, but I'm stuck
for now. Below is the route command from Monty. apu is Smoothwall.
