[wellylug] cpu temperature reported incorrectly

Actually AMD recommend a pahse change thermal gel with heatsink direct
onto the cpu core applications such as with the Duron and Athlon series
of processors.

This is because the heatsink will expand faster than the core as it
heats up resulting in a pumping action. This pumping action tends to
cause the mineral oils used in thermal pastes such as Arctic silver to
slow get pumped out leaving effectively a dry joint which will not
conduct heat very well. However this may take years to actually happen
and is probably only an issue on machines which are frequently swithced
on and off or have wildly varying processing loads.

Interestingly all the AMD64 processors except the mobile ones have a
heat spreader stuck onto the core (using thermal gel), and you can use
your favourite performance thermal paste for the heatsink interface.
