[wellylug] kppp alternatives

Hi all, I have recently gotten a Debian (Woody 3.2 I think) box up
and running, looks lovely, behaves well etc, but I still haven't
managed to connect it to the wide world, the reason being that in my
excitement of getting it working I forgot to select kppp in dselect
while installing. kppp is the only dialler I have used to date, I know
there are others but I don't know how to use them.
I have tried running dselect again, and it now says kppp is
installed, but it if is I don't know where. I seem to have some empty
kppp folders here and there, which isn't encouraging. I even
downloaded a kppp.deb package and tried to install it, but it had
heaps of dependancy problems. What I would like to do is get a
connection working somehow, set up apt to point at some web locations
instead of my installation discs and start upgrading - and if I can
get a different dialler to work I'll be happy to stick with it. A
simpler one would be good, I don't want to rely on the GUI.
So...what do the rest of you who, like me, are crippled with a 56K
modem, use to touch the outside world with your linux machines? Is
there a generic dialler that probably is already installed on my
machine that is easy to configure?
Thanks,
Nick
