Yeah, that's what I had to do in the end too, for slightly less
mainstream Linux distributions (for example Slackware). However I
assumed that Dick Smith were keeping up-to-date with at least the
Mandrake drivers, especially since they sell (provide) the distro, and
are so proud of their new Linux-friendly attitude. Sorry about that,
but I'm confident the driver you have downloaded will work.

That's one way of looking at it, but if you can stay interested you
can have a lot of fun and learn a lot using Linux. It's also
//really// nice to be able to hear of a program or distribution you're
interested in, download it for free and run it without ever needing to
wonder where your credit card is and if you're getting gypped. Coming
from a Windows background I still get a kick out of (legally)
downloading any and all Linux software I can think of. And if you
happen to be a programmer (or want to become one) the Linux platform
is a far superior place to work, and if you're really keen you can
even contribute to some projects. I just think that's a nice idea.
