What is considered "advertising" is entirely up to Ewen & his interpretation.
The prohibition was not "paid advertising", or "self advertising" but any
"advertising", Logic isn't especially relevent, a dictionary is more
appropriate :-) Even suggesting a component is advertising. Suggesting or
recommending a vendor is certainly advertising. Word of mouth is a well known &
effective advertising and marketing technique.
There is a separate wellylug list for advertising which is probably a more
appropriate place to discuss the purchase of computer equipment.
Given the support we receive from Ewen, my preference is that if in doubt,
don't risk it. He has clearly stated his conditions for continued access to
this service. We do have an eminently suitable alternative, so why risk it?
