[wellylug] Display problem

I'm having some display problems that I haven't come across before.
Whenever I open a browser (or possibly any other x application) from
Fluxbox, Blackbox or Enlightenment (haven't tried KDE or Gnome) I have
a strange effect where I can't see the whole window - I can't see
what's displayed on the page without scrolling up and down first, and
I can't see the url bar without blindly clicking until I get it, and
menu's and buttons don't show up until the mouse moves over them (and
presumably they highlight so they get repainted.
 I also have troubles setting a background image - whether it's a
solid background or a picture it sometimes works fine but quite often
the top half of the screen will contain the image and the bottom half
will be white. The same goes for Eterm transparent backgrounds. I am
using fbsetbg to set the backgrounds, and it is using Esetroot - but
bsetroot and xsetroot are not making any difference.
I assume these probs are related but I really don't know, and I don't
know where to start looking for a fix. Anyone know what's going on
here?
I'm running Debian Woody on XFree86-4.

   Nick
