[wellylug] console question

My sister has thrown a question at me for which I can't remember the 
answer. She has set up her first linux box (Fedora Core 1, no X, 
webserver / development / practise machine), and wants to know how to 
change the console settings to something more readable than the default 
multicoloured text  with lots of unreadable blue in it. Can someone 
remind me how to change it, and where the settings are to make it permanent?
