The non-root app is called 'sensors' but you need to compile and install 
the correct bus drivers (e.g. SPI, I2C, depends on motherboard) and the 
correct driver for the sensor itself (of which there are hundreds...).

It's a fun way to spend a summer holiday. And even then, the measurement 
might not be accurate. Make sure you use a recent lm_sensors.conf file and 
have a read through it (esp. comments). There's also a scan program that 
can try to identify your sensors.
