Not really... & I'm not sure I'll actually get to own or use one seriously :-(
Most of the grunt work is back on shore, sea going work is generally more about
data capture than analysis.
I'm discussing the possibility of a Wgtn demo/press/marketing event with the
Iwill. Hopefully involving the LUG, as to get the best out of dual cpu 64bit
hardware, you need a good SMP 64bit OS. Interestingly, Linux has less
competition here than in the 32bit arena, hence my belief that the LUG could
usefully be involved :-)
(No promises, if I can get this sorted I will, but I'm not the only one trying
to get my hands on it for a play :-)
While such an event should prob be set up via the org list, I figured
mentioning here first was more appropriate.
If anyone has any ideas for a good demo showing the SMP/64bit to advantage,
(incidentally on Linux :-), and is happy to help set it up, please let me know.
I have an OpenDX 3D visualisation which could look good, but DX isn't really
multi processor optimised, not that we need to go into details, just have a
flash looking applicati9on or 3 running fast. Some GIS stuff with LINZ data
might also be appropriate, as could some topo modelling with global datasets.
I'm sure some of you will have ideas in areas I'm completely ignorant of. I
guess OS software would be nice, but commercial apps shouldn't be a problem, as
long as licencing is legit.
Thanks,
Brent
