That sounds like it should work, in terms of simple electrical
connections. On the other hand, the twisting-stuff-together approach
might not satisfy the ethernet specs too well ...
I've just made a similar loopback plug, which makes my laptop say
eth0: lost link beat
eth0: flipped to 10baseT
when I unplug it and plug it back in.
The other thing that occurs to me is that if your NIC can't do full
duplex it might not work, since it can't hear itself when it's talking.
Anyway - where are you?
I've got this thing and don't really need it ...
