[wellylug] KDE question

i'm trying out KDE..

sometimes when starting an X app from the kde menu, a "Starting <app name>" 
appears in the task bar.. the hour glass spins, and then the taskbar entry 
disappears. The app does not start

Starting the same app from xterm it works.

Is there a log somewhere that will give me some clues why some apps won't 
start from the kde menu?
