Yeah, I'm not sure what db portage uses, but it *is* written in
python.  I might suggest asking on #gentoo on EFnet though.  (Don't
bother with Freenode, those buggers are elitist bastards. *grumble*)

There's also extensive documentation at gentoo.org, but I'm guessing
you've already looked there?
