I certainly agree. discuss at meta.net.nz isn't intended to be a list a
list to discuss linux advocacy in a long term context. It's an effort to
see if there is interest in creating a united national body to help New
Zealand's F/OSS community take the next step in its Development.

We did miss posting to the NZOSS list, I apologise, part of this is
probably because I didn't realise that NZOSS was still active, my
perception on this has been corrected in the last 24 hours.

In our defence we did send the invitation to Peter Harrison directly, so
we can hardly be accused of completely failing to attempt to engage with
groups like NZOSS.

I think you misunderstand our intentions. We are trying to gauge the
amount of interest in support for creating a national body that is much
bigger than NZLUG or NZOSS (or even a local LUG) is on its own. As such
the individual lists of any one of those organisations aren't really the
place for the discussion to happen.

We've done our best to try and invite everyone who may be interested on
to the discuss list, and I apologise if you are feeling put out that we
didn't email the NZOSS list. I think it's quite premature to start
getting upset that we might be trying to "fork" or create yet another
organisation in what is definitely a very small country.

I certainly hope that the outcome of the discussions is a much stronger
organisation, whether that is a reinvigorated NZOSS or a merger between
NZOSS and NZLUG, or a completely new organisation that takes over the
functions remains to be seen.

Kind Regards
