I think there is an argument for standards sometimes calle etiquette..  
I recall the old story about the change to driving on the left hand side 
of the road in Ireland.  Trucks this year, and rest next year.  
Somethings can only be done one way. 

I have been guilty of promoting top edits.  I can see that it would be 
better if (a) users edited out the debris, and (b) left the composite 
message in natural sequence.  And etiquette is about cooperation with 
fellows. It is not being all the same.  It is about cooperating where 
cooperation has a payoff for more than oneself.
