I use xawtv as the viewer.
With 2.4 kernels, you need kernel patches (http://linux.bytesex.org/)
and I have to pull some wierd stuff to get stereo sound working.
With 2.6, it just works.
I think mine was a Flyview Xpert 98, but I'm not sure. lspci gives:
