When I first saw this mentioned, that was my first reaction too.  But
after thinking about it for a while, it makes sense.

Traffic to and from Paradise's SMTP server is charged as international
traffic, because much of the data you send to it is going to be relayed
overseas.  DNS is fairly similar (although the traffic volumes are far
lower)
