I believe it's an external USB FDD.
My only suggestion is checking your /etc/fstab to ensure that the correct
/dev/sda# is associated with /mnt/floppy. It could be that changing the
drive has made the device one number "higher" in the chain.
(This of course assumes that the drive mounts using a virtual SCSI driver,
but as most I have seen do this I think it's a fair assumption)
Have a look at the output of dmesg just after plugging in the drive to see
to "name" of the device.
