Do you have SCSI CD support compiled in the kernel? also, try modprobing 
sr_mod (scsi removable support) and SCSI cds on my system (when i had a 
SCSI CD-ROM) showed up as /dev/scd0 but that was back in the 2.4 days so 
things may have changed.
