Unfortunately I have no /dev/sda_n  nor /dev/scd_n 
A bit of a (bad) surprise really.

Though 
[root at rimutaka edouard]# lsmod | grep -i sr_mod
sr_mod                 17668  0
scsi_mod              119064  4 sg,st,sr_mod,sd_mod
cdrom                  39520  2 sr_mod,ide-cd

It seems that I may need to mknod /dev/sda_n or /dev/scsi_n

Distro is Mdk 10
Please do not tell me that the SCSI support is not by default in the
kernel ?????
