i am using mandrake 10.0 in my first experience of linux on an old compaq p2
with an integrated sound card. i have managed to get the system to play cds,
and the system sounds option in the configure/kde/look and feel menu plays
a file when i press the 'test sound' button. i have selected 'enable system
sounds' and turned on all sounds for all applications. however when i try to
preview the sound file for the events ilsted, no sound is played and i have
no sound in any of the kids' games, on startup or closedown or in any other
applications.
is there some option i have missed or setting i need to select? the sound
files are there and if i navigate to the /usr/share/sounds directory i can
play them by double clicking each icon. i just cant work out how to turn
them on for system events and games.
any help gratefully revcieved.
and for those people who helped me in november when i hwas having trouble
with modems, turned out the problem was my phone cable. once i swapped that
everything worked perfectly.
James
