[wellylug] Problem powering off an ATX system

As I mentioned in another reply, I'm hoping for a no-tweak solution.

I run Gentoo - tweaking doesn't frighten me (compilers can sense fear in
computer geeks).  If it does however solve the problem, perhaps I'll
consider some such approach.  She has enough hard disk to back up the
entire system onto another partition, so I might build an auto
backup/restore system (like I did at work for CVS), and let that take
care of catastrophes.
