Some versions of bash (or possibly readline)[1] do not cope well with
very long lines, and getting terminal line wrapping working. I have
a tendency to use full screen Putty sessions when forced to use that
other inferior OS[2], and often when editting 80+ column command lines
have issues returning to the beginning of the line.

I'd always thought it was bash, but it may well be bash and Putty not
interacting via SIGWNCH signals properly.

[1] 2.05.08(1)-release on Redhat 7.3 through Putty does not cope;
    3.00.16(1)-release on Ubuntu Breezy through urxvt does cope.

[2] The one that starts with W, and is developed in Redmond.
