because they depend on different versions of dependant packages.
it is just like a debian sarge package not being installable on woody.
ians argument completely misses that point.
debian packages just need a simple rebuild to update those versioned
dependancies.
the problems in the rpm world more likely come from different distros
putting files in different places, something that can't even be fixed
with a rebuild.
lsb is attempting to solve that.
