Replacing the harddisk in most laptops is usually not difficult, the worst 
I've seen in Toshibas is when they're under the keyboard but it's really 
minimal disassembly compared to trying to replace almost anything else in 
laptops.

Smallest 2.5" HDD that seems to be available these days is 40GB (worth 
about $150 plus installation costs).
