Definitely getting it working with xawtv is the first step. Forget about 
MythTV until you have that working.

Are you using the saa7134 driver that comes with the 2.6 kernel? Are you 
specifying a card=?? option when you modprobe it?

I got MythTV working but I didn't like it much - my custom job with nasty 
Perl scripts meets my needs right now, except for some reason when Ubuntu 
starts up, the line-in sound gets unmuted and I can hear the default 
channel, but when I start xawtv it mutes it. Worked fine in Gentoo. Meh... 
not enough time to muck around with it right now...
