Someone has to have 'extreme' (or 'pure' depending on your POV) views in 
order to stabilise a movement. That's why Torvalds is such a poor leader 
for the Open Source cause - he cares little about some of the important 
issues surrounding his field, and is prepared to make compromises to 
achieve his own goals. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it makes 
him a poor leader for a movement (although perhaps a good leader for 
product development). RMS deserves recognition for making a stand for 
something he believes is right and good and for sticking with it for so 
long, even if he is a non-conformist.
