Yeah my 4G 20G iPod works with Linux. I routine use it to transport gigs
of data.
I plugged in into my Fedora Core 3 machine and it was immediately
recongnised and a suitable icon placed on my desktop which was nice.
I've got it running on a debian box at work - though sometimes i have to
rmmod modules like eth1394 before it will pick up the drive and assign a
device to it and also i have to pass the 'serialize_io=1' param to the
sbp2 module or transfer rates are awful. I can't for the life of me
figure out how to get gnome-volume monitor and hald/hotplug/udev to
automount it on insertion like Fedora does, but oh well.
The short answer is that if you have a working firewire controller
(havent tried with USB) it should work just fine. (also, note that the
'eject' command works to stop the 'do not remove device' message on the
ipod whereas most resources on the net tell you that you need to rmmod
sbp2 which in my view is very wrong)
