If you want to debug the kernel by running it in userspace under gdb,
then Xen won't work as a replacement :-(

But if you want to do server virtualisation, Xen (once it's installed;
and compile it yourself, it seems to make things easier) is a lot
better; it's faster, and comes with nice managment tools to start up
partitions on boot, and makes it easy to get to the console of each VM. 
Much less hassle than UML :-)
