Depends on your definition of 'playing nice' but I have XP on my second 
partition and it's fine once I got it installed:

hda1:  /boot  (including /boot -> . and  /grub )
hda2:  WinXP
hda3:  FAT32
hda5:  XFS
hda6:  swap

I think there are issues with XP on the second *harddisk* however...

I also seem to recall I had to mess around a lot when installing XP to get 
it onto hda2 - like fooling into recognising hda1 or something. I remember 
it was a pain.
