I think you'll find most server level LAN capable backup packages have some
sort of LAN based read (& often write) access to entire filesytems. Otherwise
it can be a tad difficult to back them up.

There was some discussion about this supposed flaw in Arkeia, from memory the
feeling was that Arkeia supports encryption & authentication, providing
security to an acceptable level (ie: it was not as bad as the original article
suggested), but this security is NOT the default.

This was IMHO a more valid issue.

So if you are not a competent sys admin, ie, don't read the manual & leave the
unsecure default settings, you are likely to have a security hole.

But if you are such a sys admin, this is likely to be only one of many such
holes :-)
