FWIW, this page:

implies that the Experimental release of OpenWRT now includes support
for the WRT54GS v1.1 and presuambly the WRT54G v2.2 (which has similar
hardware changes).
I've not yet tried it myself, but when I get a chance I'll try it on my
(otherwise unused) WRT54GS v1.1, and see if I can get my various
applications to build too.
