 Hi David,
 yeah from what I've read so far music production on Linux looks totally viable, and with the low-latency kernel a far better platform for it.  All the technical stuff is a bit of a headfk for me but it seems like the way to go, especially given the interoperability of the software.  Have just got Ubuntu running smoothly on my laptop, I'll start playing with the software but what I really need is to be able to choose between the two kernels on startup going into the same desktop environment, the normal kernel with normal sound configuration for desktop work and listening to music, and the low-latency kernel with ALSA configured for my external soundcard.  Rosegarden, Ardour, SooperLooper and Hydrogen look like amazing apps.
