I'm going to have to agree with Joel on this one Jamie.  I've done a
Gentoo compile on a 939 box and was pleasantly surprised at the speed
of the box. (Glibc compiled in 22 minutes!!! OMFG!)  I didn't get to
the point of install OOo (have Office on the Mac), but everything else
I built seemed to work just fine.

For the time being, you're not going to find a whole lot of 64-bit
apps - they're just not quite there yet.  But most will compile on a
64-bit box just fine.  I will say this though: from what I've seen
(and granted, it's not much), there's a whole lot MORE apps that do
64-bit on linux than there are 64-bit windows apps. :-)
