[wellylug] Installfest update

Gidday....

Several of those assisting with the 2005 installfest met at last night's
meeting in Wellington to discuss the event. So here is a report on where we are
at. Or at least where I think we are at.

venue: Silicon Systems, 73 Sydney St, Petone.
       Sat 24th Sept

       setup from 9:30
       startup:  10:00

DSE will have flyers for the week preceding to give away.
I'll build a LiveCD with an Impress presentation for DSE shops to have runnning
DSE will try to get us copies of their OS software CD to give away.

Silicon will have 4 PC's set up as you come in running Ubuntu, Mandriva & SuSE
so folks can see before they choose a distro. The 4th will either run a copy of
Novell desktop or Windows with OO, Firefox, Tbird, depending on whether we get
a Novell desktop person to do a presentation. These will all have internet
access so we can show browsers, email, etc. working.

Silicon will do the printing for us (500 colour double sided A5 I think will
do)
Silicon will have a Philips TFT flat screen for a business card prize. (MINE!!)
Novell will be providing copies of SuSE 9.3 Pro for the installs
Novell will provide a few copies of a demo of Novell desktop
I have a few Ubuntu copies, a few more Kubuntu, but more appreciated-please?
   (Wayne- you maybe had some to spare?)
Dymocks will have flyers and provide relevant books for sale.
Silicon will have nibbles & Coke for those helping, (but we felt having too
much food/drink around the premises was asking for a disaster)
Jethro/Jeremy are burning Mandriva CD's
Jamie B was going to sort out press publicity & the Impress presentation, but I
need to confirm this with him.
Peter is providing name tags for everyone helping (please let him/me know if
you will be helping and what your name is.

THIS INCLUDES ALL THOSE WHO THINK I KNOW YOUR NAMES!!! I prob don't. My memory
for names is incredibly bad- (as even my wife knows!)

Unless there is frantic opposition, I was going to get some of last years
Installfest $$ to pay for blank CD's for the disks that members are burning.

We have a few people doing installs, some generally helping out, but need a few
more to share the load.

Please email me if you can help, I'll ensure your name gets to Peter so he can
print up a name-tag for the day.


If there is anything I've left out, my apologies. I left my notes at work so
this is from memory. I figured I'd better get something out rather than wait
another day... please let me know....
