Your laptop probably needs fbdev or trident video drivers and the default 
puppy cd only comes with xvesa (or at least that was the case with version I 
tried some time ago). I believe you can rebuild the puppy livecd on another 
system using "puppy unleashed" and add the fbdev driver but you might be 
better off with DSL (Damn Small Linux) that let's you choose between fbdev & 
xvesa when installing.
