I'd recommend going with the pay version if you are semi-serious  
about DirectX on Linux.
Most of the games require different versions of Cedega to be  
installed to run correctly.
Their user interface takes care of this hassle for you but that is  
only if you are using the pay version.

Unless you have a couple of games that you really must play in Linux  
and are certain they will work 100% its probably easier (and far more  
reliable) just to dual boot. Checkout the Cedega forums for their  
supported games. Don't just look at the list of names but also  
checkout each game you are interested in as usually there are a few  
gotchas, (like the game works but cut-scenes aren't visible or the  
game works until level X when it crashes).
