Clear, Telstra, Paradise... the front-line staff don't know
anything about Linux, but since they're an ISP they DO
have techies on higher support levels that do know

That aside, a problem with DNS is most likely unrelated
to the clients operating system.  And still the question
whether you actually tried the nslookup thing on both
OSes.
