How is mutt forming your envelope sender address for the bounce?

1) Are you explicitly doing a 'set hostname='x.y.z' in your .mutrc?
(And if so, does the x.y.z hostname really exist?)

2) Are you setting envelope_from in your .muttrc?  (And if so, either
a) Does the message that you are trying to bounce match one of the
alternates you have set in your .muttrc, and you have set reverse_name
set? or b) Do you have a folder-hook or send_hook that is setting
"my_hdr From"?)

If you can send mail with mutt, but not "bounce" it, that suggests the
way your .muttrc is forming the envelope sender address for this case
is broken rather than Postfix.
