They may well be.... the installed package mangler returned a blank when I
tried to search for emacs. I assumed therefore that they were not. (This is
Kubuntu, I don't know if that makes any difference?)

Not really. It's just "How do I install emacs on Ubuntu", but any relevant
advice is appreciated.
A few minutes on the Ubuntu site basically gave almost nothing I found useful.
But lots of sales speak....

Hmmmm.... "H o w d o I i n s t a l l e m a c s o n U b u n t u o n a
s y s t e m w i t h n o i n t e r n e t a c c e s s ?"
How do you suggest I rephrase this to be clearer? Perhaps:
I have a Pentium III computer running Ubuntu 6.06. It does not have internet
access. The installed package manager returns no files when I search for emacs.
I tried to find a .deb repository to locate the appropriate files but failed to
find any. Can anyone help me find the necessary files and suggest how to
install them if they believe it is necessary?
Sigh..... my thanks to Andrej & Jonathan & those who seemed to feel the
question needed no additional verbiage wrapped around it, and who, between
them, provided a relevant, complete and useful answer.
Thanks,
Brent
