Jethro,
I have attached my wvdial.conf file.
Things that I have already tried are Stupid Mode = On, and Carrier Detect = Off, and using Windows' modem init strings. The only one that seemed to make a difference was Stupid Mode = On.
I used HyperTerminal to look at paradise.net.nz's logon prompts and have pasted them below for reference:

Entering PPP Session.
IP address is 210.246.9.36
MTU is 1524.

hi Leith,
could you please also attach the config file. (/etc/wvdial.conf)
(just delete your password and user name from the output you put into your email. ;-)
