If the old redundant partitions are continguous with /dev/sda1, then you
should repartition, being careful about starting cylinder numbers etc.,
and just extend the /dev/sda1 partition; then run "resize2fs /dev/sda1",
and it will automatically extend the ext2/3 filesystem.

I believe you can do this online, but if not, you'll have to boot from
a rescue CD or similar.

I'm assuming that the linux partition on /dev/sda1 is ext2 or ext3.
