How long is a piece of string?

64 bit applications can be faster at doing stuff that really needs 64  
bits. Not a lot of everyday computing needs 64 bits.  Your OS may if  
you've got far too much ram, or a nice big hard drive. Saying that -  
the general perception on 'older' register starved chipsets is that  
32 bit runs a bit faster...

To quote someone on MacSlash "64 bit doesn't mean faster. It means it  
can access much larger memory pointers." Bigger bites. It all depends
