[wellylug] Very Important: Meeting of 13th Feb 2005

man, why do I always start the controversial debates! ;-)

what I really want the org group for, is to organise events like
meetings better.

For example, a lot of newbies are being turned away from meetings, as
the meetings consist of people who know each other sitting around and
talking, and there is no one to help introduce them to the lug and the
lug to them.

If there was a leader/leaders/administrator they could organise the
meeting better.

Considering how many differing opinions there are about this topic, and
because there are only so many hours in the day, here's what I'd like to
do:

1) Scrap this org group idea. Otherwise we are going to spend the next 3
years arguing. I'd rather discuss Linux. Plus I have only so many hours
in the day to eat, sleep, program, let alone discuss politics.

I still want to have an org group, but it just doesn't seem like it's
going to happen in a hurry/ever and it's just going to annoy too many
people.

2) People to say that they are okay with having me administering
meetings.

Basicly I want to make the meeting more friendly for new members, and be
able to pull in speakers from outside of the wellylug community, and try
and find people to do things such as tutorials (eg: how to setup a samba
server).

However, I don't want to do this if people disagree about who runs the
meetings, otherwise I will have problems getting these people to come.

so, if people say that they are happy with me running the meetings, I'll
let this idea die, as it's really the lack of meeting structure that is
troubling me.

you may be right in that the wellylug as a whole doesn't really need a
leader. I may have been wrong about this.

so what do you [wellylug] say about me running the meetings?

thanks,
