hi all,
I just got a widescreen LCD (yay!), but I'm having some issues with
Xorg. The model is the Philips Brilliance 200W, and Xorg is 6.8.2.
I want to get xorg to set the resolution as 1680x1050, but Xorg refuses
to recognise that mode. Instaid I can get 1024x768, 1280x1024 and some
others.
I updated to the latest nvidia drivers and also tried nv, with the same
results.
I googled and found that you need to manually set something called the
ModeLine with various settings, for xorg to recognize the 1680x1050
resolution. Various laptop howtos have this mentioned.
However, I have no idea how to get these settings. I have settings such
as horizsync and vertrefresh and the video dot frequency, but xorg wants
some really weird stuff.
I googled around and can't find anyone else writing about setting this
screen up with Linux.
Does anyone (not "someone", Bret! ;-) know how I get the settings for
ModeLine or alternatively, know how to get this monitor to work! It
wants stuff like the Hdisp, which I have never heard of before.
thanks,
